Why candidates lose marks on this paper
Series V-A is not a difficult exam conceptually, but it is unforgiving in two specific places. The first is calculation: NAV, returns and expense-ratio questions are worked, not recognised, and under time pressure people rush them. The second is regulation — the questions test precise thresholds and timelines, and an approximate memory of a rule scores nothing.
Practising against a timed paper is what separates candidates who know the material from candidates who can produce it in two hours. Our analytics show which of those two problems you actually have.
How to prepare
- Read the official NISM workbook end to end before attempting a full-length mock. The workbook is the source the questions are written from.
- Take a timed full-length test early, not at the end — it tells you where to spend the remaining weeks.
- Work every calculation question by hand rather than eliminating options. The exam will not offer convenient distractors.
- Revisit each wrong answer's explanation the same day, while you still remember your reasoning.
