Where IC 38 fits alongside NISM
Most people sitting IC 38 are not choosing between it and a NISM exam — they are adding insurance to an advisory practice that already distributes mutual funds, or the reverse. If that is you, Series V-A and IC 38 together cover the two products you are most likely to be asked about.
The exams themselves are unrelated. Passing one gives you no standing in the other, and the syllabuses do not overlap in any way worth planning around.
How to prepare
- Work from the official study material for the line you are being appointed for — the exam is written from it.
- Practise the product-comparison questions specifically; they are where candidates confuse features across policy types.
- Learn the code of conduct and grievance provisions properly. They are straightforward marks and are routinely underprepared.
- Take timed full-length tests so you are not reading questions against the clock for the first time on exam day.
